My Bridal Diary : Update Time !

Well ya , Its been a pretty long time I have wrote anything for in this section ..

Here's what's going on now ..

1. Engagement/Sagai date is fixed. The occassion in Bengali is called "Patipatra"(fyi)

2. Venue  : Booked (they will provide the catering and decorations)

3. Invitations:

Close friends and family have been told to red-circle the date

4. Lehenga :

After evaluating lods of Pros and Cons of a lehenga vs Saree, I have decided to go with the lehenga for Engagement . Now, I have a really tight budget of 10K .And sadly nowhere I could find anything below 20K.

Hence, I will go for a DIY . I have PLAN A ,B and C for this *grins*

I recently came across my best friend's cousin and she is a NIFD grad ! (yeah I know that's a steal deal :D ) I have already shared my ideas with her and we plan to sit together and decide on the fabric and other details for final probably next week. This is obv the Big Plan A.

Now, if this fails I will go for Plan B and scout few more boutiques

Failure ? Enter Plan C - Buy fabric -- scout for a tailor--get it stiched.

If you know a tailor (who can stich a proper lehenga without much fuss, in Kolkata.. do share in the comments below) Heard Das n co. of College street does a good work!

5. Jewelry :

Planning to keep it simple and chic with a pretty diamond set . The neckpiece has got some sleek floral pattern. It came with the earpiece. And a bangle too ! Bought all of them from P.C.Chandra Jewelers ,Bhowanipore,Kolkata

Rings and wristlet are from previous buys.

When it comes to Shopping affordable Diamond jewelry in Kolkata I recommend you to visit P.C.Chandra and Nakshatra(South City). They have got lightweight and easy going pieces.

TBZ has recently opened in Camac Street..but didn't get a chance to visit..will do later

6. MakeUp :

Will book Nabin Das ( a pro MUA ) next week when I visit Kolkata. He charges 8K for Hair,MakeUp and Draping.

I had talked to some more MUA's .. will do another post on it

7. Mehendi:

No idea who tops this list in Kolkata but I think those guys in Rashbehari avenue,Gariahat (near BasantiDevi College) will do a good job ! Have to talk with them ! Scared about what goes into those mehendi though !

7.Photographer :

This is where I am lagging Big Time ! Since it will be a day occasion and just for 4-6 hrs max..I don't wanna shell out much on "candid" photographers. You have any suggestion? Help me out !

8. Shoes and other accessory :

Oh damn !I had totally forgotten about it! I definitely need a new pair..may be jutis/kohlapuris will go well with lehenga ! I am a big mess with heels (even an inch of it scares me :X )

Sigh !

So, next week I have so much stuff to do in only 4days !! :( Prior to the engagement (which is in april.. i won't get any more leave )

  • APPLY FOR LEAVE ( I haven't done it yet ! God knows if I will ever be granted one !! :goosebumps: )
  • Meet my Thesis guide and submit biopsy sample to pathologist !( Sry, I am jotting this down everywhere as a reminder.)
  • Meet this best friend's NIFD grad cousin :D Take best friends along !(God what are marriages without friends and sisters) Finalise on design , fabric et al
  • Meet MUA Nabin Das and pay advance for booking
  • Search for decent photographers
  • Search for Mehendi artist
  • If time permits, search/shop for fiance's outfit...
Oh my Gawdddd ! It's Monday already.. have a presentation tomorrow ..gotta hit the sack now ! Gn lovelies !

  6. Hello, I have a great tailor who recently made my best friend's lehenga. She is the kind who will help you buy the stuff too, and she is an ex teacher from NIFD. If you are interested, mail me, and I will send back details. She is not too fast mind you, and she is going to measure you and fit you, but she is really good. Also, she can help you find out lehenga pieces, and there are a few shops at Sriram Arcade where you can get lehenga pieces.

    1. Also, so happy you are doing these posts, it helps all brides-to-be immensely.

Btw, my alma mater was Basanti Devi College. The guys who sit just outside the gates are really good. There are many there so you can just go and see their work or just stand there see their work on the people they are applying on then and there. I had gotten my mehendi done from one of them during my bro's wedding.

      Hope this helps. :)

    2. For the photographer, you can check these guys https://www.facebook.com/wedding.bells.photography?fref=ts

One of the photographers - Indrajit is my friend. I am not sure of their charges, but I think they can help you out with the basic shots too.

      Delete
    3. Thank you so much Priyanka.. can you ask him about the charges PLZZZZZ.. :)

I know those mehendi guys are good.. but can you suggest anyone particular (like THE BEST !!)Also I need the artist to come to my place .. have any idea about their charges ? Or is it like a flat rate ????

      Delete
    4. Sure, i can speak to Indrajit. I'll talk to him and get back to you.

I wish i could tell you which one of those guys is the best, unfortunately when I went to these guys it was a loooooooong time ago (around 4-5 years ago). Since, I haven't been there since then I am not even sure if he is still there.

As for the mehendi charges, they charge as per the design and per hand they apply on. And you might have to pay for their travelling charges (sometimes they charge, sometimes they don't).

    2. We mainly went for all the safer options as we didn't know much about shops etc in Kolkata.. basic saree shopping was done from priya gopal in rashbehari rest we got from south, mehendi waalas were chosen from the ones who sit near gariahat.. Bhabhi booked an MUA from Lakme.. she did a pretty decent job with my bhabhi's makeup. She was happy..
Our jewellery shopping was done down south only.. We bought artificial jewellery and sandals from metro plaza and bangles from new market in esplanade.. we weren't very happy with our photograper.. so wouldn't suggest that.. we also got some very nice salwar kurta pieces from some shops in new market.. that's all i could recollect for now..

    3. Thank you dear ! Now, i think i will go with the mehendi guys frm Gariahat only ! :)

I found it before my cousin;s wedding. My cousins. my sisters and I myself got our blouses done from there and they did a really good job!
Btw, they also do the lehenga stitchings.
